Supportive Friend

What We Do:

The current lack of prevention services in rural areas within Alabama leaves communities without needed awareness and knowledge of substance use issues. This includes means to connect to resources and support services for those needing SUD treatment.

RAP focuses on mitigating the substance abuse epidemic and advancing public health and economic prosperity within our rural counties by focusing on three areas of prevention:

Education: Prevent SUD using our evidence-based materials and trainings through in-school prevention programs, educational events, and our collection of support services.

Advocacy: Destigmatize substance use disorder in rural areas through promoting treatment over punishment in both schools and criminal courts.

Community Engagement: Partner with communities in a comprehensive effort to prepare community organizations to identify SUD problems, increase the availability of evidence-based treatment options, increase evidence-based prevention efforts within schools and churches, and lower the overall SUD rate within these communities.

The organizations of engagement include: criminal courts, DHR, first responders, schools, churches, hospitals, primary care providers, current SUD treatment providers, municipal leaders, and county leaders. RAP provides hope through engagement by all community organizations to educate, identify, and refer to treatment, all individuals with substance use disorder throughout rural counties in Alabama and beyond.

Our Mission:

Rural Addiction Prevention aims to identify and prevent substance use disorder (SUD) through education, advocacy, and community engagement.

Our Vission:

To end addiction in the state of Alabama.

Together, We Can Fight Addiction.
